Swinging at the Symphony

15.00

Featuring the Austin Big Band and Brian Koser, Alto Saxophone

October 29, 2017 / Knowlton Auditorium

We kick off our 61st season by welcoming to the stage Austin’s own Big Band for a set of challenging, multifaceted, and stylistically diverse works written by America’s finest Jazz artists: Duke Ellington and Wynton Marsalis. The symphony pays tribute to George Gershwin on a significant anniversary. And life-long music educator, Brian Koser, joins us for what is sure to be a thrilling performance of Darius Milhaud’s most famous work for saxophone and orchestra.

Program

  • Duke Ellington: Night Creature for big band and orchestra
  • Wynton Marsalis: Swing Symphony (excerpts) for big band and orchestra
  • Milhaud: Scaramouche, feat. Brian Koser, Alto Sax
  • Gershwin: Gershwin in Hollywood

Tickets are also available at the Coffee House on Main Street and Hy-Vee.
